As part of the Yushan Program, NTNU\u2019s Yushan Fellow and UCLA professor Shu-mei Shih will host a series of workshops in the next few years.  The first workshop, entitled \u201cSinophone Studies and Its (Dis)Contents\u201d (Workshop 1), follows the summer intensive graduate seminar that Professor Shih has taught in June\/July 2023 under the same title, further explores major issues and topics in Sinophone studies through an engagement with scholars and writers in Taiwan.  How does Taiwan situate itself within the Global North\/South dyad?  What is the function of science fiction in imagining a different kind of futurity for Taiwan?  How does the Han settler colonial imagination conceptualize \u201cthe South\u201d in Taiwan and beyond Taiwan?  How might we imagine a decolonial cultural praxis by Han settlers in Taiwan?  Finally, how does indigenous speculative fiction intervene in the Han settler imagination and foretell the possibility of a decolonial futurity for all?<\/p>\n
