| Abstract | After the Chinese government took over Taiwan in 1945, most of native Taiwanese (“Benshengren”) writers faced the aporia caused by the change of writing language and thus gave up their literary careers. However, some writers tried to overcome the structural difficulties by establishing support communities.
This article attempts to clarify the overall community structure of Taiwanese writers from the 1950s to the mid-1970s. By referring to Bourdieu’s field theory and Escarpit’s “Equipe” framework, the study firstly investigates the operations and external structures of the literary field. Secondly, social network analysis is used to examine the social relations among Taiwanese writers. The finding shows that the social interactions among native Taiwanese writers, from mainstream newspaper supplements to writers’ community organizations, were frequent. The interactive process not only shaped the prototype of the writer equipe, but also discovered emerging writers, forming an overall community support structure for native Taiwanese writers. |
