Ph.D. Program
Department of Taiwan Culture, Languages and Literature (TCLL) is the first department of Taiwan culture that has integrated culture, languages and literature in curriculum since establishment. While focusing on Taiwan studies, the department also highlights interdisciplinary collaboration and international exchange. In addition, the department organizes lectures on Taiwan culture and career development regularly and invites scholars and experts to share their experience. “Study Groups” among faculty members and students foster critical thinking and idea exchange. The biennial “International Conference on Taiwan Culture” has been held for years and has always been a distinguished gathering among academics. The academic journal Monumenta Taiwanica includes research papers of Taiwan studies in different fields and welcomes submissions at home and abroad, hoping to lead the trend of Taiwan studies. The department also encourages students to submit papers to foreign journals while combining NTNU resources to assist students to participate in academic conferences overseas. With substantial and valuable research resources, the department prepares students with interdisciplinary research skills to enrich Taiwan studies and to build culture with Taiwan subjectivity.
Master Program
Department of Taiwan Culture, Languages and Literature (TCLL) is the first of its kind with integrated courses that include different aspects of Taiwan culture. Since establishment, the department incorporated courses of three fields, culture, languages and literature, into its curriculum. While focusing on Taiwan studies, the department also highlights interdisciplinary collaboration and international exchange. In general, with academic and applied courses that cultivate both local and international thinking, historical and contemporary awareness, the department equips students with both academic skills for further study and practical skills for entering society.
Undergraduate Program
Department of Taiwan Culture, Languages and Literature (TCLL) aims to cultivate students that act locally but think globally. The department integrates Taiwan culture, languages and literature into its courses, covering a wide range of subjects in Taiwan studies. Students get to embrace culture, languages and literature works from different ethnic groups in Taiwan through a variety of courses. In addition, the department offers applied courses, such as Language & Communication and Cultural & Creative courses. Diversified courses cultivate professionals in research, teaching, communication and marketing. Upon graduation, students can choose to engage in mass media or the cultural and creative industry, promoting and marketing Taiwan culture. The department provides a comprehensive education system from undergraduate and graduate courses to extension courses and PHD courses. NTNU also provides many exchange opportunities from sister schools every semester. Students are encouraged to exchange abroad for one or two semesters to enhance language and professional skills. With diversified courses, the department provides both local and international thinking, academic and practical training, historical and contemporary awareness, hoping to equip students with skills ready for the changing society.
