【Elective Credits: 18 Credits】
- Ph.D. students can take courses of Master level for Ph.D. elective credits, but not courses of undergraduate level.
- Ph.D. students should take courses provided by this department in either Chinese or English for 18 credits, in which up to 6 credits can be obtained from outside of this department (i.e. other departments or other universities) as an alternative (a special application for taking inter-campus/inter-college courses is needed in advance)

— a total of 12 credits can be obtained from other departments under the College of Liberal Arts as an alternative (without a special application)
— a total of 6 credits can be obtained from other Colleges or other Universities as an alternative (a special application for taking inter-campus/inter-college courses is needed in advance)

Ph.D. students should take courses taught in English provided by this department or other departments under the College of Liberal Arts for 15 elective credits, in which a total of 6 credits at the most can be obtained from courses taught in English outside of the College (other colleges or other universities) as an alternative (a special application for taking inter-campus/inter-college courses is needed in advance).

- Ph.D. students are required to complete at least 18 credits, including 3 required credits and 15 elective credits.
- Ph.D. students are allowed to take up to 6 credits from other departments or universities (which shall be counted in the 15 credits of elective courses) while a special application for taking intercampus/intercollege courses is needed in advance.

Guidelines for Participation of Graduate Students in Academic Activities within the Department【Publications】
Ph.D. students are required to publish 3 research papers in peer-reviewed academic journals. (OR 2 academic journal papers +1 conference paper)【Academic Activities Attendance】
Ph.D. students need to attend academic activities (e.g. lectures, workshops and conferences) held by this department for at least 8 times (3 related activities from outside of the department with formal proofs of participation are acceptable).
In addition, those who admitted since 2023 Fall need to present their research findings at least once at the Graduate Student Workshop organized by the department.
