Faculty Position in the Department of Taiwan Culture, Languages and Literature at National Taiwan Normal University, Taiwan

I. Position Opening: Full-time (or Project) Assistant Professor or above.

II. Position starting date is expected to be from August 1, 2022.

III.Research Expertise: Applicants should hold a doctoral degree with research expertise related to Taiwan Studies. In addition, applicants should have an English proficiency of at least C1 level on the CEFR scale and meet at least one of the following criteria:

  1. International teachings talents with EMI skills;
  2. EMI skills and the ability to teach in Taiwanese.

IV. Qualifications: Other than beginning teachers with a doctoral degree but have yet been employed before, applicants should meet at least one of the following criteria (1-4):

  1. Publication of at least 2 articles within the past 3 years in journals listed in Science Citation Index, Social Sciences Citation Index, Taiwan Social Sciences Citation Index, Engineering Index, Arts & Humanities Citation Index, the new Taiwan Humanities Citation Index published in 2016 (originally Taiwan Humanities Citation Index Core) or SCOPUS, as the first or corresponding author.
  2. Acquisition of at least 2 research grants from the Ministry of Science and Technology within the past 3 years.
  3. Publication of at least 1 book or monograph within the past 3 years. Peer review report and letter of acceptance should be provided.
  4. Exceptional performance in scholarship. Proof of achievements should be provided.

* The above-mentioned journal articles and research grants from the Ministry of Science and Technology may complement each other.

* Beginning teachers refer to those who have not had a full-time teaching experience in a college or above within 2 years (excluding the military service period for male applicants) from the date of obtaining a doctorate to the date the Department publicly announced the position opening.

* If the applicants’ highest academic qualifications are granted by NTNU, applicants must have at least 2 years’ experience in research, professional occupations or positions similar to the nature of Taiwan Studies.

* The above-mentioned “past 3 years” are calculated retrospectively based on the announcement date of this position opening (including those who have been accepted by the journals and will be published on a set date).

V. Date of Application: From the date of announcement to January 10, 2022 (The domestic postmark will be used as the basis and overdue submissions will not be accepted.)

VI. Materials to be submitted:

  1. Application form (downloaded here).
  2. Autobiography.
  3. Proof of degree and relevant experience (including photocopy of the doctoral degree diploma, academic transcript, teacher certificate, letter of appointment) (For applicants who have a degree from overseas and have no teacher certificate in Taiwan, the applicants’ doctoral degree diploma and their academic transcript must be verified by ROC embassies or representative offices stationed abroad with Chinese translation).
  4. A list of publications and research grants.
  5. Relevant publications within the past 5 years (abstracts should also be included; beginning teachers can submit their doctoral dissertations to meet the qualification criteria).
  6. Proposed syllabuses (3-5 courses, not limited to existing courses of the Department).
  7. Other documents that may be favorable for the review (e.g., proof of qualifications, language proficiency, honors and other supporting documents).

* The application materials above should be submitted in 3 copies (please separate the materials into 3 copies but send them in the same package).

VII. To apply:

  2. Please send all the application materials (in 3 copies within the same package) by post to the Department of Taiwan Culture, Languages and Literature, National Taiwan Normal University at 3F, No. 1, Yunhe St., Daan Dist., Taipei 106013, Taiwan, R.O.C. Please indicate on the envelope that it is for “Applying for TCLL Teacher”. Please note that we will not return any documents submitted so please keep your own copy regarding the application materials.

VIII. Note:

  1. Short-listed candidates will be invited for interviews.
  2. Successful candidates, after appointed, must pass an assessment in the following semester after serving in NTNU for 3 full years (i.e., the 7th semester) and must complete their promotion within 6 years.
  3. According to regulations, this recruitment is only finalized after the teacher number is officially approved by NTNU.
