【Congratulations】Dr. Seng-hian Lau Honored with the 2026 Outstanding Teaching Award!

We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Seng-hian Lau has been awarded the university’s Outstanding Teaching Award for the 2026 Academic Year!

Dr. Lau actively employs innovative teaching methodologies and digital tools to enhance learning efficacy, maintaining frequent interactive engagement with students through educational software. Student feedback—ranging from general education courses to rigorous Syntax seminars—consistently highlights his dedication to guiding students and fostering both intellectual challenge and a strong sense of achievement. To boost pre-class reading engagement and interactivity, he continuously integrates the flipped classroom model, utilizing literature reading notes and grading post-class online Q&A sessions to encourage active student preparation and participation both before and after class.

In terms of curriculum innovation, Dr. Lau has developed several groundbreaking new courses in recent years, including “Taigi Syntax,” three distinct courses on “Austronesian Languages of Taiwan,” and “Taigi Grammar in Comparative Linguistics”—all of which are rare or unprecedented offerings both domestically and internationally.

Beyond his contributions on campus, Dr. Lau has long made significant impacts on the broader public and educational communities through lectures and workshops. To transcend classroom limits and disseminate academic expertise to the general public, he actively engages in popular science publications and digital resources. Supported by the Higher Education Sprout Project, he established the world’s first interactive Taigi learning website (https://taigiddy.tcll.ntnu.edu.tw/). Furthermore, he has introduced professional linguistic knowledge to wider audiences through popular books such as Linguists Decode Taigi and The Universe in Words and Letters: A-má and I Saved an Alien, alongside his internationally published learning guide Superb Taiwanese Primer. His achievements in public education and knowledge dissemination are widely recognized.
